McIntyre Journal Special - Sunday May 17th.
We appear to have lost another week. Let me explain in shorthand:
Last Monday, I drove up to school for the final Board meeting of the year. Plenty happening. Normally that would have dominated my week.
However...
Ella took advantage of my absence to take a taxi over to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor changed her medication, and gave her an injection, but her haemoglobin was still low, so the doctor scheduled a blood transfusion.
That took up most of the rest of the week. Mostly because inserting the IV went as follows - "Oh. Where is your vein? It is hiding. Wait. I will try this way.... " The swelling is now going down. But I could not claim the patient had a comfortable night.
The good news is I could donate the first unit - we share the same blood type. At least we have medical evidence of compatibility! The same FEBC listener admitted us and found us a room. And this time I didn't even have to pay a deposit!
And Ella's blood count is now up to 113. Approaching normal...(The doctor informs us the usual range is 120-160.)
Our resilient Katherine survived all sorts of changes of plan and being dumped at friends' houses at a moment's notice. And our food stocks contain some interesting surprises after three neighbours all decided to do our grocery shopping for Ella coming home!
FEBC work, school stuff and other interesting things did still happen -this is the Philippines after all! But in the interests of sanity and recovery the next scheduled Journal will arrive next week.
I am striving to make it as uneventful as possible!
